RECORD REVIEW vol.4

by DJ SHIMOMURA

Well, we didn't ask DJ Shimomura to write about some music for "spring", because... He's not suit to it! But he recommends here at No.5, "Cherry Blossom Girl". Good! But his comment made me lough.

RAMM:ELL:ZEE / THIS IS WHAT YOU MADE ME(inst)
TRI-ENGHT/Hip Hop/LP
This is the one that released by CD at the end of last year. I would say that this is the "WILD STYLE" in the 21st century by DJ KENSEI & D.O.I. You sould buy 2!
JURASSIC5 / IF YOU ONLY KNEW
UP ABOVE/Hio Hop/12"
I haven't bought their records these days, but I like this one. This remains me of their early works. So cool! Plus I surprised that it was promoted by the BEAT NUTS!
CLOUD DEAD / DEAD DOGS TWO
BIG DADA/post rock/12"
They will put out an album around the same time that this PEACE vol.4 is out. On the B side, it has one song re-mixed by BORD OF CANADA, and it sounds like the beat softly sarrounds their message.
APHILAS / INSTRUMENTALLY ILL
MERCK/abstruct/12"
This one is from MERCK, a good label in Miami. It's kind of ordinary music, but it just catchs my ear. A good feeling with a down beat.
AIR / CHERRY BLOSSOM GIRL
SOURCE/post rock/12"
It's not difficult to imagine what this one sounds like if you know BORD OF CANADA and MUM.
I don't think the title is cool.
CHAOS / ARCHIVE.01
INSECTOR LABO/ELECTRONICA/12"
I almost always refuse electronical electronica, but this is another story. I can't stop shaking my head to it's strong metallic beat.
BLUE BIRD / SLOPPY DOCTOR
OFF BEAT/Hip Hop/LP
You know OFF BEAT, a crazy German Hip Hop label did it again! This one is better than ANTICON! I definitely say this is the No.1 Hip Hop album released these days.
DJ KENTARO / MY FAVORITE SONGS 2
TOYALTY/Hip Hop, Reggae, break beats/Mix Tape
DJ KENTARO is always perfect on everything! I think the word "DJ" was made for someone who's like him! "No walls between the music" he said. I'm down!
URGE / TURN TABLE COLOSSUS
NANA/turn tablism/video
I have no words to explain about this video. It's not only about their scratching skills. I think Japanese Battle-DJ (DJs competing their scratching skills) are not worse than DJs from other countries. You will see many amazing Japanese scratch DJs in this video. They must create cool beat by turn tables.

PELICAN CITY / RODE ISLAND
DECEMBER FIRST/abstract/LP
I'm sorry I don't know about this artist too well. It's the re-pressed one that was out 4 years ago by CD. It's good for people who are looking for some good chill-out music. If you like DJ Shadow's first, you must love them.
